Who We Are The Christians that make up the Sandlin Road church of Christ are a group of people who are committed to following Jesus Christ. We view the New Testament as instructions from Jesus and His Holy Spirit-led apostles. We place a high premium on Biblical authority, and accept all the Scripture as inspired of God. We believe the Bible is.....
While we fully admit to have been sinners separated from God (Rom. 3:23), we rejoice to have been saved from our sins and have been added by Jesus to His body, the church (Acts 2:47; Eph. 1:22-23). We make no precise claims as to who or how many will eventually reach heaven; we believe the Lord is fully capable of determining this without us expressing any opinions (2 Tim. 2:19). Our goals are to teach the good news of Jesus to the lost world around us, to nurture each Christian in the church to full growth in Christ, and to provide limited benevolent help to saints in need. We believe one can open the pages of the New Testament and read about the church the Lord promised to build (Mt 16:18) and, in fact, did build. Since we acknowledge the church belongs to Christ, we also accept the fact the church should bear His name – the church of Christ (Rom. 16:16). That church is alive and active today in the world. The Christians that meet at Sandlin Road in Elkmont, Alabama belong to that universal body, and make up the local congregation in this area. Unlike man-made religious organizations, we are not connected to any human board or convention. We answer only to Christ, our Head who is in heaven (Mt. 28:18; Eph. 1:22-23). We wear no denominational name. We are and strive to be simply New Testament Christians (Acts 4:12; 11:26). The Sandlin Road church of Christ is a non-institutional local church of the Lord. We oppose the support of human institutions from the Lord’s treasury (such as missionary societies, orphan homes, etc). While not opposed to helping the destitute as individuals or preaching the gospel, we believe the support of such humanly-devised organizations from the Lord’s treasury contradicts New Testament authority for how the local church’s work is to be accomplished. We also oppose the “sponsoring church arrangement” found among many churches of Christ. We believe this arrangement destroys a local church’s autonomy (independence), and is therefore unscriptural. We welcome any inquiries about us or the Bible, and stand ready to answer any questions anyone may have (1 Pet. 3:15). |
